### Step 3

- **Objective**: [Q] I want my own ship.

- **Summary**: To build a ship big enough for the open sea,
you'll need plenty of materials.
Have you been to Port Epheria? That's the place to begin.
The shipyard there can set you on your way.
※ Use Contribution Points on the World Map (World Map)
to purchase the Shipyard in Port Epheria and craft large ships.

### Step 4

- **Objective**: [Q] I want a bigger ship.

- **Summary**: Barter across the Great Ocean or help others,
and you'll earn sturdy materials for an upgrade.
※ Register your ship with the Wharf Manager,
then use Upgrade Ship with the required materials to proceed.
※ However, you cannot upgrade a ship with low Durability,
ship equipment equipped, loaded cargo, or sailors onboard.

### Step 5

- **Objective**: [Q] What kinds of ships are there?

- **Summary**: There's everything from simple rafts and fishing boats
to swift vessels and big ships like the Epheria Sailboat and Frigate.
From there, it all comes down to the captain's taste.
Choosing the ship that fits you best, that's the mark of a true captain.
If you're bartering close to shore, a Trader is your best bet.
If you're heading out to battle sea monsters in deeper waters, you'll want a Galleass.
Eventually, you can upgrade to an Epheria Carrack,
the largest ship, with four types depending on your upgrade path.

### Step 6

- **Objective**: [Q] What's Barter?

- **Summary**: Every island has barterers waiting.
Bring goods from land and trade them for something better.
You never know,
sometimes you might stumble upon something truly rare.
※ You can check available barter goods via Barter Information at the top left of the World Map (World Map), or go to Menu (Cancel) - Life - Barter.
※ You can only barter with big ships.
Bring your ship close to a Barterer to anchor.

### Step 7

- **Objective**: [Q] What's the benefit of a high Barter level?

- **Summary**: Visit barterers often, build a good rapport,
and deals will come easily.
※ Level up Barter to lower Parley costs
and unlock more barter exchanges.

### Step 8

- **Objective**: [Q] How do I graduate?

- **Summary**: ※ After completing all Combat and Life Skill Courses,
the graduation quest becomes available during the graduation period.
Visit Justin Bartali, the Olvia Academy Headmaster,
to begin the graduation quest.

### Step 9

- **Objective**: [Q] How to partake in naval combat?

- **Summary**: With a large ship, you can make use
of your cannons for naval combat.
Handle your guns well, and you can hunt the Great Ocean's creatures
or drive pirates back where they belong.
Now, if you happen to have a guild at your back, why,
you could take part in the Blue Battlefield and stake your claim over marine nodes!

### Step 10

- **Objective**: [Q] Where can I get a ship for Barter?

- **Summary**: The Sailboat you received from Lodovica
is a fine choice to start your barter journey.
Use that for now,
then work your way up to something bigger.

### Step 11

- **Reward**: Are you ready to leave the land behind
and face the blue waves?

### Step 12

- **Objective**: Alright. I want to sign up for the course.

- **Summary**: Good. You've got a sharp eye already...
With that attitude, you'll make a fine sailor yet.

### Step 13

- **Objective**: I don't think I'm ready yet.

- **Summary**: I see... Very well.
The sea isn't something you face without resolve.
Steel your will first. Learn to find your own way.
Otherwise... the waves will swallow you whole.

### Step 14

- **Reward**: Ah... well then. Let's begin the lesson, shall we?
First, we'll take it slow and shore up the basics...

### Step 15

- **Objective**: What's Barter?

- **Summary**: As you sail from island to island,
you'll run into Barterers.
Papus, Otters... even sailors out in Margoria.
Trade with them, and you can turn a tidy profit,
and now and then...
you'll come away with something truly special.

### Step 16

- **Objective**: What's naval combat?

- **Summary**: With a large ship, you can make use
of your cannons for naval combat.
Handle your guns well, and you can hunt the Great Ocean's creatures
or drive pirates back where they belong.
Now, if you happen to have a guild at your back, why,
you could take part in the Blue Battlefield and stake your claim over marine nodes!

### Step 17

- **Objective**: What else can I do?

- **Summary**: The sea is... truly vast.
The Great Ocean is brimming with adventures.
With a ship, you can roam freely, from remote isles to distant continents,
places you could never reach by land.

### Step 18

- **Reward**: Now... are you ready to head out to sea,
to place your fate in your own two hands?

### Step 19

- **Objective**: [Complete] I understand everything!

- **Summary**: Good. So you understand it all.
Then let's move on to the next step...

### Step 20

- **Objective**: [Guide] Lesson guide

- **Summary**: ※ Ask Philaberto about what you can do with Sailing.
When you feel you understand, reply with [Complete].

### Step 21

- **Objective**: [Complete] I understand everything!

- **Summary**: Good. So you understand it all.
Then let's move on to the next step...

### Step 22

- **Reward**: Go and speak with Lodovica,
the wharf manager just behind me.

### Step 23

- **Reward**: If you were to end up stranded mid-ocean, it would be no small trouble...
So make it a habit to inspect your vessel and keep her well repaired.

### Step 24

- **Reward**: When sailing, the position of each island becomes a guidepost upon the waves.
Learn them well! They'll keep you from losing your way along the sea routes.

### Step 25

- **Reward**: Now then... as you take the helm yourself...
Are you beginning to feel more at ease at the wheel?

### Step 26

- **Reward**: Trade goods refresh when day breaks...
So once more, take the helm and head back out to sea.

### Step 27

- **Reward**: Each successful deal builds trust.
And the more you barter, the more islands will open their doors to you with new offers.

### Step 28

- **Reward**: You won't match a wharf manager's skilled hands for repairs, of course...
But you'll manage enough to bring your ship safely back to port.

### Step 29

- **Reward**: If you keep materials well stocked, then even in storms
or when facing monsters of the sea, you won't be left adrift and helpless.

### Step 30

- **Reward**: First...
shall we learn how to hire a sailor?

### Step 31

- **Objective**: Yes, my ears are ready.

- **Summary**: First, you'll need to find sailors looking for work.
Try the tavern at the Lunar Halo Inn in Velia, and
near the General Goods Shop on Iliya Island,
or along the coast at Port Epheria.
Now, hiring sailors must go through proper channels.
You'll need a certificate bearing my signature.
Take that certificate to them and inquire for an Employment Contract,
and once they accept, they'll come aboard with you.

### Step 32

- **Reward**: Hiring them is only the beginning.
There are still duties for you to remember as captain.

### Step 33

- **Objective**: What do I need to remember?

- **Summary**: Sailors can lose condition
or even fall ill out at sea.
Feed them to help them recover,
and if sickness strikes, you'll need Elixir of Regeneration.

### Step 34

- **Reward**: Good sailors become a ship's hands and feet...
Treat them well, and your vessel will surely sail true.

### Step 35

- **Reward**: A ship bears sturdy cannons for a reason.
Use them to protect your vessel from Hekarus.

### Step 36

- **Reward**: If you ignore dangers at sea, one day...
they will swell like a rising tide and crash down upon you without mercy.

### Step 37

- **Reward**: Facing young sea beasts in the Young Sea Monster Habitat
will serve as valuable experience, indeed.

### Step 38

- **Reward**: If you want safer sea lanes, even by a little...
you cannot afford to look away when sea monsters appear.

### Step 39

- **Reward**: And should you upgrade your ship, you'll command a bigger, broader vessel,
able to carry more cargo and unleash more powerful cannon fire.

### Step 40

- **Objective**: [Guide] Lesson guide

- **Summary**: ※ Ask Philaberto about Ship Upgrading.
When you feel you understand, reply with [Complete].

### Step 41

- **Objective**: [Complete] I understand everything!

- **Summary**: Now then... have you decided
which carrack you want to upgrade to?

### Step 42

- **Objective**: What are the steps to ship upgrades?

- **Summary**: The Epheria Sailboat can be upgraded to a Caravel,
then on to a Carrack: Advance or Balance.
As for the Epheria Frigate, it goes to a Galleass,
then becomes a Carrack: Valor or Volante...

### Step 43

- **Objective**: What types of Carracks are there?

- **Summary**: The Epheria Carrack is the final step for big ships,
the very goal of ship upgrading.
There are four types, each built for a different purpose:
Advance, Balance, Valor, and Volante.
Advance boasts high cargo capacity, making it perfect for Barter.
Balance is dependable in just about any situation.
Valor is an offensive vessel, with powerful cannons.
Volante is the fastest and the most nimble.

### Step 44

- **Objective**: How do you upgrade ships?

- **Summary**: To upgrade a ship,
take the required materials to the Wharf Manager.
※ Register your ship with the Wharf Manager,
then use Upgrade Ship with the required materials to proceed.
※ However, you cannot upgrade a ship with low Durability,
ship equipment equipped, loaded cargo, or sailors onboard.

### Step 45

- **Objective**: What are the materials for ship upgrades?

- **Summary**: The materials needed for ship upgrading vary quite a bit...
Some come from Gathering and Processing,
while others only turn up
when you defeat sea monsters.
You can earn some through Barter, too,
and some are offered as quest rewards.

The Great Expedition - Ship Upgrading.

### Step 46

- **Reward**: Thank you for listening so carefully...
And now... shall we move on to the next lesson?

### Step 47

- **Reward**: There will be times when you require Emergency Supply.
It's a way to restock your ship while still at sea.

### Step 48

- **Objective**: What's Emergency Supply?

- **Summary**: Emergency Supply is how you service your ship at sea
when you can't reach a Wharf.
Low on Ship Cannonballs? Use Origin of Wind.
Running short on Rations? You can load food from your inventory straight onto the ship.

### Step 49

- **Reward**: The sea is ever fickle.
Only a well-prepared sailor can endure its shifting moods.

### Step 50

- **Reward**: Hekaru may be far more violent than any sea monster you've faced so far...
but if you are my student, I trust you will weather the storm.

### Step 51

- **Reward**: You've done remarkably well up to now.
And now... it is time to bring this lesson to a close.

### Step 52

- **Reward**: Shall we trade our farewells, and finish up properly?
Would you shout out the chant?
