Complete the [Balenos] Main Questline or [Mountain of Eternal Winter] Main Questline or Fughar's Memorandum - Chapter 1 quests to be able to accept the Black Spirit's Gift (Inventory Slot) quest from the Black Spirit.

Apparently the Black Spirit claims to have more inventory slots to spare, which it will present to you as you continue with your adventure.
